My name is Jared West, and I’m a junior at Columbia University studying Physics with a focus in Mechanical Engineering. My interest in mechanical engineering and industrial/product design comes from years of admiring, designing, and building physical objects. As a physicist and engineer in training, my philosophy is physics-informed design, using physical principles in novel ways to create powerful mechanical and electrical systems without sacrificing aesthetic and user experience considerations. I love to see my designs come to life and have consequently developed a strong proficiency in rapid prototyping, commonly employing 3D printing, laser cutting, and machining to bridge the gap between the digital and physical worlds. In my free time, I’m a dedicated power-lifter, professional dog walker, and an avid reader of Marvel comics.
